Hindraf breaks up with Pakatan Rakyat

By Baradan Kuppusamy - The Malaysian Insider

KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 7 — Hindraf founder P. Uthayakumar today brought 200 supporters to demonstrate against Pakatan Rakyat outside the PKR headquarters near here, venting is anger against the coalition for allegedly “betraying” the Indian community.

The demonstration signals the final parting of ways between Hindraf and Pakatan — an alliance that had significantly benefitted the opposition coalition when it swept through four states and won 82 seats in the March 8, 2008 general election.

“They made promises and we urged the Indians to vote for Pakatan. Two years later Pakatan is a big zero,” said Uthayakumar, who now leads the yet-to-be-registered Human Rights Party Malaysia (HRP).

His former Hindraf colleagues S. Ganabatirau, now with the DAP, and Vasantha Kumar, who were both arrested together with him under the Internal Security Act in December 2007, watched the demonstration and criticised Uthayakumar for helping the ruling Barisan Nasional federal government by splitting the Indian vote and weakening Pakatan.

“We have done more for Indians than Barisan has ever done. Why does he not demonstrate outside the MIC or Umno building? Why come here and tarnish Pakatan name?” asked Vasantha Kumar, who has joined the PKR.

“This is gutter politics...he is taking the poor Indians for a long ride,” he added.

The demonstrators held banners and placards that condemned Pakatan.

PKR= Umno, one placard read. Others condemned Pakatan for failing to give land to Tamil schools and temples.

However Uthayakumar brushed aside the accusation that he is “pro-Umno” in his political choices saying there was no difference between both Pakatan and Barisan.

“Both are racists and Malay-centred and both sees Indians as people to be used and discarded,” he told The Malaysian Insider.

“Two years they have been in power in Penang, Selangor and Kedah and before that in Perak. These are states with lots of Indians but the leaders have not lifted a finger for the Indians,” he said.

In a statement titled “You’re yet to be paid debts to the Malaysian Indians” Uthayakumar said the Pakatan is steadily losing what it gained in Election 2008.

He claimed credit for sparking the Indian revolt on Nov 25, 2007 that he said brought Pakatan all its gains.

“They can with one signature solve 90 per cent of Indian woes by providing land for temples and Tamil Schools but they refuse. Why should we support them?” he asked.

Uthayakumar vowed to go it alone and contest in 15 parliament and 30 state seats in the next general election, focusing on seats that have between 20 to 30 per cent Indian voters.

“We are beefing up these constituencies with new Indian voters and are confident of winning,” he said.

These are seats now held by PKR and DAP Indian leaders such as Penang deputy chief minister Dr P. Ramasamy and DAP assistant secretary general M. Kulasegaran, among other leaders.

He said with these seats HRP will be the real kingmaker between Pakatan and Barisan and will use the clout to demand for benefits for the Indian community.

He also refuted allegations that his strategy will split the Indian voters and benefit Barisan.

“We will stand and it is for the Indian voters to decide. If they want a strong and honest voice they must choose us,” he said.

M. Suresh Kumar, the PKR Indian leader who has been tasked by Anwar to handle the “HRP matter” said Uthayakumar was out of his mind.

“You can’t win any seat on just Indian votes. You have to learn how to cooperate with other races and work in a give and take manner,” he said.

He dismissed Uthayakumar’s “go alone” strategy as foolish, unworkable and dangerous.

HINDRAF-Press Release- BRIEFING AT THE HOUSE OF COMMONS LONDON

PRESS RELEASE – HINDRAF & East Malaysia natives at House of Common UK on

March 9, 2010

A forum have been organized to raise awareness before the House of Common in UK parliamentary by HINDRAF in partnership with Monitoring Group (UK) to address the marginalization and discrimination faced by Malaysian Indians as well as the indigenous natives in East Malaysia under the patronage of Mr Virendra Sharma, a member of Parliament in United Kingdom.

The purpose of this forum is to continue to highlight and enhance the awareness to the international arena on widespread discrimination on human rights that prevails in Malaysia on UMNO’s totalitarianism led Malaysian government against its own citizen.

Amongst the discussion will be issues related to human rights violations, human liberty, equal opportunity that have been deprived or suppressed for certain segment of Malaysian society to exercise their basic rights and freedoms to which all human races is entitled to.

The objective of this forum is to underline and emphasize to the international community that a human rights issue is transculent beyond any comminity and should not be solely based on the relations or community of people similar to a bourgeois system but one that the humanity race will prosper with a just and equitable purpose for the human race.

The international world has witnessed apartheid in South Africa, yet aparthied is practised against Malaysian citizens through unfair and unjust policies of the UMNO totalitarianism along with their coalition partners. The international community can participate to ameliorate the grievances of the destitude Malaysians in Malaysia when they start voicing out for the voiceless in Malaysia as they are also a part of the human race that we all try to create.

HINDRAF with its international partners will continue and pursue their objectives in pursing such goals to ensure that humanity is paramount besides petty politics that eradicate and subject the human race to such marginalization and discrimination that is prevalent for the Malaysian Indians similar to one that is faced by the natives of Malaysia.

The event will include guest speakers from HINDRAF, East Malaysia representatives and other independent experts on the marginalized and discriminated state of several segments of the Malaysian society.

HINDRAF to bring up ‘ethnic cleansing’ in briefing at House of Commons in London

HINDRAF to bring up ‘ethnic cleansing’ (Malaysiakini) Joe Fernandez

‘Ethnic cleansing’ in Malaysia is on the agenda of two briefings in London on Tuesday (Mar 9).

The first briefing in the afternoon will be at the Conservative Party’s Human Rights Commission and the second at the House of Commons.

Both briefings were arranged by Hindraf Makkal Sakthi and The Monitoring Group (TMG), a UK-based human rights organisation.

Makkal Sakthi – people power in Tamil – is the motto of the Hindu Rights Action Front (Hindraf), a human rights and equal rights movement.

Hindraf will be joined at the briefings by activists from Sabah and Sarawak under the aegis of the Common Interest Group Malaysia (Cigma).

Cigma is an apolitical ad hoc movement in Sabah and Sarawak pledged to uphold and ensure compliance with the 1963 Malaysia Agreement.

Hindraf’s definition of ‘ethnic cleansing’

“Ethnic cleansing is not a misplaced term in Malaysia if we consider that the Indian community has been gradually whittled down in numbers in various spheres,” explained Hindraf chair-in-exile Waythamoorthy Ponnusamy in a telephone call to Malaysiakini last night from London.

For Hindraf, ethnic cleansing does not necessarily have to mean that killings or genocide have to take place.

Where Indian participation is mere tokenism or virtually nil – that’s a form of ethnic cleansing, according to Waythamoorthy.

As examples, he cited the Malaysian civil service, the teaching service, diplomatic service, the plantation sector, government-linked corporations, government scholarships, public universities, the armed forces, police and the judiciary.

NONE“All these are the result of the Umno government unilaterally extending special privileges to virtually every sector in Malaysia,” said Waythamoorthy (right).

“Special privileges were merely meant to ensure reasonable Malay and native participation in four sectors.”

He cited the special privileges “in its original form” as employment in the civil service, intake into public universities, government scholarships and opportunities from the government to do business.

Hindraf will also be including its latest annual report, ‘Human Rights Violations in Malaysia’, as part of its presentation in London.

“We have already touched on some of these violations in various press statements,” said Waythamoorthy in dispelling the notion that he had something dramatically new against the Malaysian authorities.

Highlights of the Hindraf report include temple demolishings, denial of Tamil schooling and Tamil language rights in insidious ways, forcible removal of people from their land, police brutality, deaths in police custody, the shoot-to-kill policy of the police and the issue of statelessness.

Also included would be Waythamoorthy’s continuing dilemma over the cancellation of his international passport by the Malaysian authorities.

The Malaysian authorities have also allegedly refused to issue him a new passport, explain themselves, apologise, make suitable amends and compensate him.

“The passport issue will also be taken up separately at the World Court through United Nations officials,” disclosed Waythamoorthy.

The Hindraf chair explained that London will be a big step forward in Hindraf’s international lobbying to seek justice for the Indian community in Malaysia “and end their continued marginalisation from the mainstream”.

“All we are seeking are our legitimate rights under the federal constitution and our place in the Malaysian sun,” stressed Waythamoorthy.

Malaysia Agreement to be brought up

Cigma chair Jeffrey Kitingan may not be able to make it in time for the March 9 briefings in London.

“Cigma will be represented in London by several others from Sabah and Sarawak. There will also be quite a number of Malaysians in Britain turning up,” said a spokesman in Kota Kinabalu. “We will issue a statement in due course on the papers presented and the issues raised.”

He added that the papers from Sabah and Sarawak are still being finalised but hinted that the Malaysian Government’s non-compliance of the 1963 Malaysia Agreement tops the agenda for the London meet.

PM Najib practices true oppression against Indians in One Malay-sia

But his kosong UMNO propoganda otherwise is “Aim for a truely united country” (The Star 1/3/2010 at page N8).

S’gor PKR Indian Exco mandore’s kosong one new Tamil school Tamil paper politics ala MIC

This Selangor PKR Exco mandore seems to be as thick skin as his 50 year predecessor MIC mandore in that he still continues with his Tamil school Tamil paper kosong politics ala MIC despite our repeated exposure of this his political rhetoric and even our formal complaint letter to his “tuan” Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim vide our letter dated 23/2/2010.

He has turned out to be a “fine” mandore politician as what his “tuan” Anwar Ibrahim and Tan Sri Khalid of PKR wants him to be.

But this Indian Exco mandore merely (kosong) promised the building of one new Desa Riya Tamil school in Petaling Jaya to generate excitement, play to the gallery and score political points and to stay politically afloat and alive and relevant among the especially vulnerable the Indian community.

But we ask again:-

1) Contrary to the Tamil paper sub headlines “New Tamil school for Desa Ria Tamil School” announces Xavier. (MO 1/3/10 page 2) Where is the truth of it?

2) Where is the official letter of this by the Selangor State government?

3) The land title or the aforesaid official letter to this proposed Desa Ria Tamil school was never made public at the announcement ceremony!

4) The approval letter by the Federal Government Education Ministry and the relevant authorities to the Selangor State government was never made public by this PKR Indian Exco mandore!

5) What about Tamil school land by the Selangor government to all 98 Tamil schools in Selangor all in one go! which would force the UMNO Federal government to grant full financial aid! Why no announcement on this by this EXCO mandore’s Tuan Menteri Besar Selangor. Why this piecemeal and temporary and/or non existent political rhetoric to fool and pull wool over the Indian communities’ eyes. Why not a wholesome and permanent solution by this mandore’s tuan Menteri Besar’s public announcement all in one go and with the effect of a wholesome as opposed to the present piecemeal and temporary solution on the Selangor state governments’ letterhead that all 98 Tamil schools are henceforth given state government land.

After all it has already been two years since PKR is ruling Selangor. And they only have a mere two more years to go before the next general elections and they may or may not be retained as the next Selangor state government thereafter. Why can’t PKR grant Selangor state land to all 98 Tamil schools in Selangor during their tenure as there is no way UMNO is going to do it if the come back to power in Selangor? PKR and their Indian Exco mandore would not do so as they fear losing Malay votes! But never mind these Tamil schools’ dilapidated and near cow shed like conditions.

And that brings us to the next question of what then is the difference between UMNO and PKR, DAP and PAS?

Based on his previous records, this PKR Indian Exco mandore is expected to hatch and rehatch over and over again this one new proposed Tamil school right up to the next general elections and maybe even thereafter as the malay proverb goes “Ayam telor sebiji rioh sekampung”. Further he is going to say that the Selangor state government had done their part but it is now the Federal government that has derailed this new Tamil school plan. If that be the case why then this premature new Tamil school announcement in the first place.

Admin.

Lim Guan Eng’s no land title & no show after HRP urged him to announce land for rare seafront hindu temple.

It was the Malaysia’s leading Masi Magam annual festival at the Sri Singamuga Kaliamman, Teluk Bahang hindu temple in Penang on 28/2/2010 which drew some 30,000 hindu devotees from especially all over Penang, Seberang Perai, South Kedah and North Perak. Our pro tem Secretary General P.Uthayakumar, National adviser N.Ganesan, Penang state HRP leader Kalai were all at the Human Rights Party stall. The police special branch set up shop right opposite our stall pretending to sell ice water and peanuts but monitoring and video recording with hidden video cameras. (See photos of Police SB). HRP was least perturbed.

HRP was warmly greeted by the old and young alike. Among our surprise was the eight month old sixth generation Kg.Buah Pala baby whose mother was expecting when Kg Buah Pala was ruthlessly demolished by the DAP Chief Minister of Penang Kapitan Lim Guan Eng. P.Uthayakumar had told her parents that he had read about this expecting mother and her predicament (from behind bars without trial at Kamunting Prison during his 514 days of incarceration.)

The HRP team received warm greetings, hugs, people crying, first emotional meeting since P.Uthayakumar’s release from Kamunting prison. Our valuable feedback from the general public was in effect that their only hope is in Hindraf and HRP. They see our sincerity and selfless struggle without fear and favour of both UMNO and PKR, DAP & PAS.

Some appeared to be confused as a result of UMNO’s and the police special branchs’ multi million Ringgit Malaysia “Ops Padam Hindraf” outlawing of Hindraf to confuse and break up the Hindraf and HRP people power movement by the creation of the Makkal Sakthi Party, ASP Vasanthakumar’s leading role in Operasi Padam Hindraf etc which is ably backed up by UMNOs’ control of the print and electronic media especially through the Home Ministrys’ KDN instructions to the three Tamil dailies. Our nett assessment is the Indian community’s support seems to be currently only simmering but waiting to peak and explode at the right time ie during the 2012/2013 general elections.

Given time this confusion, clouding and the impression of a break up in Hindraf will clear up within months.

HRP made their presence felt, launched their kempen Tawan Perai State seat and Batu Kawan Parliamentary seats by making them at least 60% Indian majority seats as per P.Uthayakumar’s book “Indian political empowerment strategy- the way forward”.

http://www.humanrightspartymalaysia.com/books/TheWayForwardTamilVersion.pdf

This book, HRP’s latest February buletin and an exhibition on the Hindraf and HRP struggle was also put up by the very dedicated Penang HRP state committee.

When invited to make an impromptu speech by the said temple committee leaders, P.Uthayakumar made only two briefs but spot on points:-

1) The launch of the aforesaid Tawan Perai and Batu Kawan state and Parliamentary seats respectively vis a vis the Indian political empowerment strategy.

2) He asked the temple committee chairman in their welcoming speech later that evening to ask that the Penang Chief Minister Kapitan Lim Guan Eng should announce and backed up with the Penang State Government official letter that this 200 over year old hindu temple is henceforth granted the two acre seafront land that the temple is sitting on and with an undertaking that the title to the land would be granted within 60 days especially so in recognition of the History and Heritage status of this rare seafront hindu temple vis a vis the Indian fishermen who had lived and died in Penang.

But it is believed that this racist Kapitan Lim Guan Eng upon getting this information gave this function a miss and instead as usual assigned his “able” DCM II Indian mandore to attend the function vis a vis to be the fall man cum punching bag ala what MIC had been for UMNO.

After all it has already been two years since DAP is ruling Penang. And they only have a mere two more years to go before the next general elections and they may or may not be retained as the next Penang state government thereafter. Why can’t DAP grant to this temple Penang state government land during their tenure as there is no way UMNO is going to do it if the come back to power in Penang on or after the 2012/2013 general elections.

We are here talking about “our” Penang state government as 90% of the Indians had voted for PKR, DAP and PAS in the 8th March 2008 general elections on our political directions.

HRP attempts to carve Indian-majority seats

Athi Shankar (Malaysiakini)

The Human Rights Party launched its voters’ registration campaign in Prai as part of its strategy to create Indian-majority constituencies at the state and Parliament-level.

HRP believes the Prai state legislative assembly constituency could be the launchpad for its political quest to create at least 15 Indian-majority state seats across the country.

Prai, a state seat under the Batu Kawan parliamentary constituency, has 14,175 registered voters of which 5,074, or 36 percent, are Indians.

Penang deputy chief minister II P Ramasamy currently holds both the Prai state and Batu Kawan parliamentary seat.

HRP hopes to register about 4,100 more Indians in order to turn Prai into an Indian majority seat.

‘Giving Indians a voice’

The voter registration drive was launched by HRP pro-tem secretary-general P Uthayakumar in Penang yesterday.

He said the Prai state seat was key in the party’s plan to kick-start its ‘Malaysian Indian Political Empowerment Strategy’ to create 15 parliamentary and 38 state seats with an Indian majority.

According to Uthayakumar, the Indian community is plagued with problems because they do not form the majority in any constituency.

“By having Prai as a Indian majority seat, HRP and Indians would have a more say in the state policies.

“We can demand for better treatment for Indians from the state government,” he said.

He said HRP outlined its empowerment strategy because Indians could no longer trust any of the elected representatives, regardless of whether they are from Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat.

HRP aims to create Indian-majority areas

GEORGETOWN: The Human Rights Party (HRP) launched its Prai voters’ registration campaign as part of its strategy to create Indian-majority constituencies in the country.

HRP believes the Prai constituency could be the launch pad for its political quest to create at least 15 Indian-majority federal and state seats across the country.

Prai has 14,175 registered voters, including 5,074 Indians or 36 percent.

Prai comes under Batu Kawan parliamentary seat. Both seats are now being held by Penang Deputy Chief Minister 2 P Ramasamy.

HRP aims to register about 4,100 more Indians as voters to turn Prai into an Indian-majority state seat.

HRP pro-tem secretary-general P Uthayakumar launched the campaign during the Singhamuga Kaliamman Kovil ‘Masi Maham’ festival in Teluk Bahang today.

He said that the Prai state constituency would be a key seat for the party to achieve its “Malaysian Indian political empowerment strategy” across the country.

Uthayakumar blamed the current predicament faced by working- class Indians on the non-existent of a single Indian majority constituency.

In Penang, HRP plans to create Batu Kawan and Prai as Indian- dominated seats.

Batu Kawan has 47,378 voters with Indians forming 22.8 percent or 10,802, making it among the federal seats with the largest percentage of Indian voters.

“By having Prai as a Indian majority seat, HRP and Indians would have a more powerful direct say in the state policies.

“We can demand for better treatment for Indians from the state government,” said Uthayakumar.

He added that HRP was pursuing its empowerment strategy because Indians could no longer trust any of the elected representatives either from Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat.

“All these Indians representatives are mere mandores, not policy or decision-makers,” he said

Hindraf adviser N Ganesan pointed out that the current stateless status of many Penang Indians, who were living without proper identity documents, and landless 28 Tamil schools were major issues in Penang.

Other issues are lack of education, scholarships, job and business opportunities, and virtually non-existent career growth for Indians in both public and private sectors.

He said the indiscriminate demolition of Indian traditional village Kampung Buah Pala had certainly stirred up Indian sentiments.

He said despite having two Indian MPs and five Indian state representatives, Pakatan government has until today ignored and neglected its duty to address the Penang Indian plight

Kampung Buah Pala - What happen to the 9?

Remarks : UMNOs’ AG Racist will not be prosecute PM’s P.A.

This is despite 12 police reports being lodged against Datuk Nasir Safar, Prime Minister Najib Razak’s personal assistant (The Star 4/2/2010 at page N2). In a few days time this very serious matter would disappear in thin air and never to surface.

Just mark our word! But when our Secretary General P. Uthayakumar spoke the truth on the Kg. Medan, indiscriminate Hindu temple demolishments and other “ethnic cleansing” of the Indians in Malaysia, he was within two weeks prosecuted for sedition, imposed an RM 50,000 excessive bail and was thrown into jail again for three years after having served 514 days under the ISA.

But for UMNO a different rule applies.

55% UPSR failure rate in Tamil schools. 77.4% failure rate at Sungai Besi Tamil School. No special unit to address. But UMNOs’ Special Unit for rural

No special unit to address this issue. But UMNO’s Special Unit for rural (malay muslim) schools on track.

This Special Unit was announced by UMNO’s Deputy Education Minister (NST 22/2/10 at page 4). But UMNO has zero plans to address the 55% failure rate as mentioned by Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim (TN 6/1/10 at page 4).

At the SRJKT Sg Besi (near the army camp) out of 53 students who sat for the Standard Five Pejabat Pelajaran Daerah (PPD) exams only 12 out of 53 pupils (22.6%) passed all subjects. This failure rate is presumably based on students failing one to all seven (7) subjects.

Although the issue is grave the 82 Opposition PR MPs’ choose to sidestep this Tamil school critically high dropout rate as the Indians are not politically empowered to speak up for themselves and neither do they have the economic power. Thus they are seen as soft targets by both UMNO and also PKR, DAP and PAS and hence are abandoned. Raising Indian issues may not be rewarding for them.

To move on and the way forward is as per “Indian political empowerment strategy – the way forward”
